Iconic Finnish rockers HIM have just released a new video for “Heartkiller,” the first single off their upcoming album Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice. The new album, which was produced by Matt Squire (The Used, Saosin, All Time Low), will be the HIM’s seventh full length record over their 13 year career.
HIM frontman Ville Valo recently sat down with Metal Hammer magazine to discuss the forthcoming album saying, “Lyrically, it’s the most sexual [album], the most horny one, we’ve ever made. The horny and the horned. Like the IMPALED NAZARENE song. It’s got that and a sense of immediacy: ‘I want it now, now, now.’ It’s not about being poetic or forlorn about something that is about to happen, it’s actually about something that is happening at this very moment in time.”
He added, “I like the immediacy of it. There’s a lot of information put in short songs and they don’t let go. That was the whole vibe for me. You should have seen me working the vocals out in the middle of the night, amongst my taxidermy owls in the tower screaming my guts out, unable to stop until 9:00 a.m. and then sleeping on a couch for two hours before starting again. So the whole process of the album is very close to that mental boner that just didn’t go away.”
The video was directed by and stars Bam Margera, who also directed the video for “Dead Girls Are Easy,” the first single off of Back In Blood which was released on September 15th (The End Records).
Quote from the band: “Since making videos with Bam is so much fun we decided to party some more and do the next one with him as well! As our American tour started from San Francisco I came up with the idea of shooting the video there. I don’t remember any rock video that has used San Francisco as a location, at least after Death Angel in the 80’s…The song “Dead N’ Gone” is a break-up song, so the video tells a story which is visually also breathtaking because of the scenes where it’s shot. It’s dark but beautiful and we’re like a vampire gang roaming on the classic Haight-Ashbury hippy area. Benji Madden is also guesting on this one, since he’s actually singing the backing vocals on the song as well. This is the best video we’ve done by far!” – J69
The year’s most aggressive album, Axe To Fall, is set for release on October 20 via Epitaph Records (vinyl on Deathwish, Inc.). Fans can pre-order the album from Kingsroad Merch or Deathwish Inc.
Converge is currently on tour with Mastodon and Dethklok.

“In Ashes They Shall Reap” is the first song we decided to focus on from our new album. I feel like this song will go on to become a big part of our live show as fans become more and more familiar with it. “Live For This”, “I Will Be Heard” and “Destroy Everything” followed a similar type musical structure where the call and response part of the song become mini-anthems onto themselves and the audience responds accordingly and we feed off of that energy.
We shot this video a few weeks back in Hartford, CT with our long-time friend/director Dale “Rage” Resteghini who also shot “Defeatist” and some of our earlier clips as well.
The video captures the essence of the song and all the die-hard fans that came out to be a part of the live video shoot brought it to another level. We owe a lot to our fans for being the most amazing die-hards ever. We can’t wait to start playing this song live and re-creating the energy you’re about to see…
Our new self-titled studio album will be out on September 29th; we’re really proud of it and can’t wait to take it on the road. – Jamey Jasta/Hatebreed.
